The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) was established in 1983 as the Tourism Council of the South Pacific and is based in Suva, Fiji. It has the following 20 Pacific Island government members: American Samoa, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Rapa Nui, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor Leste, Tonga, Tokelau, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Wallis & Futuna.

The work of SPTO is guided by the vision of “Our Pacific Islands empowered by and benefitting from sustainable tourism” and the mission of, “Sustainable tourism development through innovative partnerships”.

Through the 2020-2024 SPTO Strategic Plan, SPTO will focus on the following strategic priorities:

  • Marketing the region
  • Sustainable tourism planning and development
  • Research and statistics

Further to the above, the organisation will also pursue innovative partnerships to further work in areas relating to:

  • Supporting and promoting investment and product development
  • Improving air access and route development
  • Developing and empowering our Pacific people’s capacity
  • Cruise and yachting sector development
