Tomorrow's Tourism Leaders wanted... This is a call to all Tourism Students!

The high need for specialized human capital to meet the requirements of national tourism agencies and private companies is one of the main challenges that Tourism Destinations are facing nowadays.

Tourism Students LeagueThis explains the relevant role currently taken by national tourism agencies to incorporate into their management the design of tourism education policies and strategies that contribute to expanding the specialized workforce, improving the quality of tourism service provision and also generate greater knowledge and information for decision-making. In short, promote competitiveness and sustainability throughout the production chain at the national, regional and local levels. The relationship between Governments, the Industry and the Education Institutions is therefore key to obtain these synergies.

Youth is a priceless asset

The UNWTO World Tourism Students League, run within the UNWTO Academy, creates an innovative environment to empower and motivate travel & tourism students to get involved within the industry and participate in this world students tourism league getting real-time experience from the sector by creating and presenting innovative solutions for the challenges that the sector is facing nowadays. Challenges are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, placing an emphasis on Goals 8,12 and 14, in which tourism is featured and will match the SDGs requirements.

Initiative

  • National, Regional or Global 5-month Leagues where teams of students from the different participating Institutions compete against each other to come up with the best innovative ideas to resolve the challenges set
    *other formats such as single challenges can also be developed
  • Each league will be created for a specific level of studies so that the Teams are competing at an equal level.
  • 1 month - 1 challenge: The solutions given by the students will be evaluated by a jury month-by-month thus creating a League competition. Teams are encouraged to present innovative ideas to resolve the challenges set by UNWTO and the public and private sector Partners.
  • The top 4 teams at the end of each League (National, Regional or Global) will participate the corresponding UNWTO Students’ League National, Regional or Global Final4 Competition.
  • The winning team from the National and Regional Leagues will participate in a Worldwide Final4 Competition that UNWTO will organize once a year.

UNWTO Students’ League Teams will be exposed to: 

  • Opportunities to work on real case studies
  • Opportunities to see what job avenues the sector has to offer

Application Process

Education and Training Institutions interested in presenting teams, and public bodies or private companies interested in participating by providing monthly challenges to be solved by the students must submit the official request form to UNWTO Academy

All students taking part in the WTS League will automatically be honored as official members of the UNWTO Students Network, a UNWTO Academy network created to connect passionate travel & tourism industry students worldwide to share, comment and give opinion about the future of tourism and their needs and vision.
