UNWTO Network of Observatories (INSTO): Advancing the Measurement of Sustainable Tourism Development, Open Consultation Meeting

Much progress has been made since the release of UNWTO´s Guidebook on Indicators of Sustainable Development for Tourism Destinations in 2004. New instruments have emerged to support local authorities’ efforts to ensure sustainable development of their destinations in a relevant and timely manner. At the same time, many initiatives are currently working in an effort to foster the newly established Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In order to advance further and to benefit from the nowadays available opportunities offered by traditional and non-traditional data, open dialogue, understanding and alignment with the work of relevant actors in the destinations are crucial - making an inclusive, evidence-based approach indispensable for a sustainable and resilient tourism development.

With this Open Consultation Meeting, UNWTO seeks to engage, share and discuss views, experiences and opportunities in measuring, monitoring and assessing tourism impacts at the destination level in preparation of the 2017 International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development and to advance the agenda of sustainable and resilient tourism development.
