The Seychelles Islands celebrations for World Tourism Day

Seychelles activities to commemorate World Tourism Day The Seychelles Islands celebrated World Tourism Day with a series of events exhibiting the vibrancy of the Seychellois culture. 24 September: Seychelles Ball 2011 The Tourism ball which was held at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort and Casino became “a place of networking between trade partners” as it welcomed several members of the tourism trade and Government officials. The CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Mr. Alain St. Ange delivered the words of welcome to all the guests and they had the opportunity to dine and socialize with the trade partners, colleagues and friends from different walks of life. The guests were entertained by the “Fame” and “Zenith” local musical bands and three lucky persons won the lottery prizes for the event. 25 September: Open door event at hotels There was an open door event at various large hotels in Seychelles including the Maia Luxury Resort and Spa, Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino, Le Méridien Fishermens Cove Hotel and Le Méridien Barbarons hotel, as well as at the Castello Beach Hotel. Special discounts were available at some of the hotels to commemorate the World Tourism Day. 26 September: Hoteliers delivered presentations at the Seychelles Tourism Academy A number of hoteliers delivered interactive presentations at the Seychelles Tourism Academy to enlighten the students of the academy on subjects such as Hotel interactions within the communication, Challenges in the hotel industry, Effective communication and Professional attitude in the hospitality industry. 26-30 September: Tourism Fair The Seychelles Tourism Board in collaboration with the Small Enterprise Promotion Agency opened a Tourism Fair promoting the local products and handiworks of the local artists. It was an opportunity for people to enjoy a wide variety of locally made products at the Camion Hall grounds. The traditional Creole cuisine was on sale to members of the public and visitors alike, with live entertainment performed by local musicians. 27 September: Special welcome at the international airport for World Tourism Day The Seychelles Tourism Board organised a special welcome for the visitors disembarking at the Seychelles International airport on the occasion of World Tourism Day. 27 September: Launching of the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label and logo Tourism Board had the honor to launch the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Logo, with the support of the UNDP-GEF. The Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label is the Seychelles first ever sustainable tourism certification system to encourage the hotels and other tourism establishments to integrate the principles of sustainability into their daily operations. The criteria of the label are classified under eight themes comprising of Management, Waste, Water, Energy, Staff, Conservation, Community and Guests. It adopts an integrated approach to sustainability by including environmental, social and economic components. 28 September: “State House opens its doors to the tourism trade” The State House celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011. To commemorate this event and for world tourism day the Seychelles office of the President launched its "Tourist Day" by opening its doors to visitors and the tourism trade for guided tours of the State House Gardens. The tours included visits to the century old State House building. Foreign visitors will now be able to visit the State House which is the official workplace of the President of the Republic of Seychelles,every Wednesday.
