4th UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism (4-6 December 2019, Valle de Colchagua, Chile)
Following the success of the past 3 editions of the UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism, the 4th UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism is taking place on 4-6 December in Valle de Colchagua, Chile organized in collaboration with the Government of Chile.
Chile’s Colchagua Valley is a historic agricultural hotbed located roughly 100 miles south of the capital city of Santiago, beginning at the foothills of the Andes Mountains and reaching west to the Pacific Ocean. The valley’s diverse soils and micro-climates is ideal for a numerous array of quality grape varietals. Home to numbers of Chile’s most famous wines, the region's desirable terroir, combined with persistent, focused marketing have successfully launched Colchagua Valley to the level of international acclaim. In terms of innovation, independent winemakers across Chile continue challenging the norms of more traditional winemaking, from creating new blends and resurrecting old grapes to implementing dry and organic, biodynamic farming practices.
Falls under the theme ‘Co-creating Innovative Experiences’, this year´s Conference seeks to explore issues related to Wine Tourism experience, co-creation of experience, big data in Wine Tourism, and more. In line with this, the Conference will challenge its participants to further explore these topics as well as the contribution of technical assistance and capacity-building to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Conference will include workshops on four different themes giving participants the opportunity to further explore the issues addressed in the sessions and interactively share and exchange ideas which will in turn form part of the conference conclusions. The event will open with a Masterclass on how to develop competitive and sustainable wine tourism destinations and close with Wine Tourism Experiences: Colchagua Vineyards.
