UN Tourism is proud to announce the holding of the second edition of the International Seminar on Tourism Law, in collaboration with Agencia Córdoba Turismo, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, and Universidad Siglo 21. This prestigious event will take place in the incomparable setting offered by the city of Cordoba, Argentina, from November 26 to 28, 2024.

Objectives

The 2nd International Seminar on Tourism Law will focus this year on the theme "Tourism Law: Sustainability and Universal Accessibility". Its main objective is to analyse the legal issues related to Sustainable and Accessibility on Tourism Law in its economic, environmental, and social dimensions.
Its aims are:

  • To offer a global legal perspective on the subject of sustainable and the accessibility on tourism, analysing the main normative, legal and regulatory challenges at an economic, social and environmental level.
  • To provide governments with the legal tools and legal knowledge necessary to recognize and take advantage of the opportunities offered by Tourism Law for the creation of legal frameworks aimed at the sustainable and accessible development of tourism at the national, regional, and international levels.
  • To encourage the adoption of good practices and the exchange of lessons learned on sustainability and accessibility in tourism legislation and promote the development of legal systems that establish an appropriate balance between its three economic, environmental, and social dimensions.
  • To offer legal support and guidance to stakeholders involved in the tourism value chain, both from the public and private sectors, ensuring long-term sustainable and inclusive tourism growth.

Key themes and issues

The seminar will cover a series of topics related to Tourism Law, Sustainability and Accessibility, analysing from a legal perspective some of the major issues related to the environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainable tourism.

These include but are not limited to:

  • Accessibility
  • Inclusion of the most vulnerable groups in tourism activity and their legal protection
  • The environment and the preservation of historical and cultural heritage
  • Regulation and planning of the territory as a tourism resource.
  • Protection and behaviour of tourists as consumers
  • Corporate Social Responsibility in Tourism             

These topics will be discussed by representatives of UN Tourism Member States, experts from academia, as well as professionals from the public and private sectors, who will share knowledge and experiences through the different round tables focused on the legal aspects of each topic.

Expected results

The seminar aims to achieve the following results:

  • Increased understanding: Improved understanding of the role of law and the importance of appropriate legal and regulatory frameworks in the development of sustainable tourism among policymakers, industry leaders and academics.
  • Recommendations: Formulation of guidelines, recommendations, and standards for integrating sustainability and accessibility into tourism law and practice.
  • Enhanced legal protection: Increased capacity of governments and tourism stakeholders to foster inclusion and provide greater legal protection to the most vulnerable groups.

Target audience

The seminar will bring together a diverse group of participants, including government officials and policymakers, tourism industry leaders and practitioners, academics and researchers in Tourism Law, representatives of international organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and industry leaders.

The 2nd International Seminar on Tourism Law on "Tourism Law: Sustainability and Universal Accessibility" represents a significant step towards the recognition and promotion of Tourism Law as a powerful driver of sustainable and accessible tourism development.
