Travel Insights for Recovery
UNWTO & Google Acceleration Programme
The first Acceleration Programme will be held virtually and hosted by South Africa on 23 September 2020.
Date: Thursday, 23 September 2020
Time: 12:00 SAST
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) is partnering with Google on a new Accelerator Program to provide Member States' tourism ministers, travel associations, tourism boards and Destination Marketing Organizations with digital skills and new insights into consumer travel trends.
This comes at a time when The United Nations specialized agency for sustainable tourism warns that international tourist arrivals could fall by between 60% and 80%, putting 100-120 million jobs at risk. With millions of jobs and businesses at risk, this collaboration underlines the importance of restarting tourism – a sector that is a lifeline for many and that has many times before proven its resilience and capacity to drive better growth.
The aim of this programme is to further develop innovation and digital transformation skills and provide practical tools for project implementation. Each Accelerator will take place through an interactive video conference and will focus on three key areas:
New insights in the travel industry
Developing digital skills
Industry case studies of digital innovation
The first Accelerator will be held virtually on September 13rd, and will focus on insights from South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya.
