AM Reports Volume 3 'Global Report on LGBT Tourism'

UNWTO AM Reports Vol. 3

The UNWTO Affiliate Members Programme is proud to present this Global Report on LGBT Tourism, part of our series of AM Reports. With the knowledge and support of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, as well as the UNWTO Affiliate Members, this report examines LGBT tourism from a social, political and economic perspective.

As the global visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community increases, there has a steady increase in interest in this community as a consumer group, a trend which is particularly evident in the travel industry. The case studies and commentaries featured in this report demonstrate the clear relationship between countries’ progressive policies towards LGBT people and the economic benefits for their tourism sector. However, the social benefits are becoming clearer too, as more and more destinations are benefitting from the associated brand image of tolerance, inclusiveness and diversity.

In this report, well-established destinations such as New York, Montreal and Madrid explain how they are using their extensive knowledge of the LGBT segment to improve the visitor experience, while specialized tour operators from the Republic of Korea and India demonstrate how their countries can offer a fresh, exciting new experience in a safe and friendly environment for LGBT travellers.

This report is part of a series of in-depth reports on emerging markets in global tourism. Volume 1 examined the world of Tourism and Technology while Volume 2 demonstrated the Power of Youth Tourism.
