UNWTO signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD)

Geneva, Switzerland. 4 September, 2009

Mr. Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary General, and the Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), Mr. Ahmed Djoghlaf, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on September 4, 2009, on the margins of the Third World Conference in Geneva.

This Memorandum of Cooperation intends to enhance cooperation between these two organizations and to raise public awareness of the inter-relationship between biodiversity and tourism. Accordingly, both parties will work towards maximizing tourism’s positive contribution to conserving biodiversity and enhancing the quality of life of local people.
