The UNWTO, new member of the UN-Water

UN-Water is composed of representatives of 26 United Nations organizations and, in January 2009, the UNWTO became member of this partnership.

In order to stress the relevance of water for the tourism sector and to contribute to the common efforts of the UN, in January 2009 UNWTO became member of UN-Water, which was set up in 2003 with the aim to strengthen coherence among UN bodies dealing with water-related issues. Water consumption in the tourism industry is high and therefore a responsible water management is of great importance to achieve sustainability within the tourism sector. Water is also a main element of tourism destinations and attractions.
