Exploratory mission was carried out in Mina Gerais, Brazil

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), following the request for support from the Tourism Secretariat of State of Minas Gerais (SETUR), has conducted, through the UNWTO.Themis Foundation, a viability study for implementing the volunteer programme in Minas Gerais (Brazil).

The aim of this mission, which was conducted between 9 and 19 April, was to study the viability of a tourism development project focused on a caves’ circuit, including mainly the caves of Rei do Mato (Sete Lagoas), Lapinha (Lagoa Santa) and Maquiné (Cordisburgo).

During this exploratory mission, was carried out a series of technical activities in close collaboration with local counterparts, SECTUR and the Government of Minas Gerais. At the same time, during the 3rd edition of the “Salão Mineiro do Turismo”, which took place on 16, 17 and 18 April in Belo Horizonte, there was a presentation on "Training Activities Applied to Development Assistance" and a workshop where the results of the mission were shared with the stakeholders.
