UNWTO Volunteer selected for project in Cameroon

Santiago Ormeño, member of the UNWTO volunteers corps, will be travelling to Cameroon at the end of January to participate in the project Sustainable Coastal Tourism in Kribi for a period of 10 months.

The integration of volunteers in the project involves tasks such as: the development of a work plan and raising the stakeholders’ awareness of the programme’s objectives; the articulation of the different actors involved; the development of a strategy to integrate the local people; the creation of a tourism development plan of the places included in the project and the implementation of sustainable management practices; the organization of training modules for the tourism agents in different areas, preparation of promotional material and identification of opportunities to include the participation of migrants legally resident in France.

This initiative is the result of an agreement between the UNWTO.Themis Foundation, through its UNWTO.Volunteers Programme and UNWTO’s Technical Cooperation Programme, that consists in integrating UNWTO Volunteers into the implementation of ST-EP projects in order to provide specific tourism development abilities and positively enrich the volunteers perception of the local and social reality.
