DOT Celebrates National Tourism Week on September 21-27 The Department of Tourism celebrates the National Tourism Week on September 21-27, 2012 all over the Cagayan Valley Region with fitting activities. In Region 2, the following are the activities to be conducted to aptly observe the event as disclosed by DOT Regional Director Blessida Diwa: ACTVITY DATE VENUE Tree Planting September 21, 2012 DOT Proposed Office Site-Regional Government Center, Carig Thanksgiving Mass September 24, 2012 DOT-R2 Office Kulinarya sa Opisina September 24 DOT-R2 Office Street Dancing by Cagayan National High School Street Dance Champion and Band Show by the Pallua High School Drum & Lyre Champion September 24 DOT-R2 Office, along Rizal Street Weeklong Open House and Tourism Exhibit September 24-27, 2012 DOT-R2 Office Tourism Symposium September 25, 2012 Hotel Carmelita, Tuguegarao City Regional Tourism Quiz September 27, 2012 Sangguniang Pang lungsod Hall, Tuguegarao City Basic Tourism Statistics Training September 4-6, 2012 Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya Provincial and City Tourism Quiz Various dates Different Provincial/City Venue For this year’s celebration, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) declared the 2012 theme as “Tourism & Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development”. The theme is also being addressed by the 2012 United Nations International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. Tourism today is at the forefront of some of the world’s most ambitious and innovative clean energy solutions. It is therefore in this regard that the Tourism Forum on September 25 in Tuguegarao City will be discussing topics that are in line with the UNWTO theme. The topics and speakers during the Tourism Forum include: 1. SUSTAINABLE ENERGY by Atty. Marissa P. Cerezo, Assistant Regional Director from the Bureau of Renewable Energy, Department of Energy; 2. GREEN HOTEL by Engr. Arthur Ibañez , Cagayan State University Professor and President - Cagayan Chapter of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICES) 3. RENEWABLE ENERGY: Its Potentials in Region 2 by Engr. Sancho Mabborang, Assistant Regional Director, Dept. of Science and Technology, Region 2 Participants to the Tourism Forum include private sector invitees from DOT Accredited Establishments, tourism officers, professors and students. The culminating activity of the weeklong celebration is the yearly Regional Tourism Quiz which will be held at the Sangguniang Panglungsod Hall of the Tuguegarao City Hall. The contest will be participated by provincial and city quiz champions from all over the region in the Secondary and Tertiary levels.
