Charting the Future of Ecotourism in Asia

Hosted by the Government of Cambodia, in collaboration with United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and Asia Pacific Ecotourism Society (APES)

It is with great pleasure and honour to anounce that the 3rd World Ecotourism Conference will be held in Cambodia from the 3rd to 5th of October 2011. 250 esteemed members of the ecotourism fraternity will gather at Sihanoukville, Cambodia Bay (recently enlisted as an elite member of "The Most Beautiful Bays in the World") to deliberate on the future of ecotourism in Asia.

Ecotourism in Asia is at the crossroads, while high value sustainable adventure travel in Africa is thriving and in Europe, responsible tourists are prepared to pay more for ecotourism. In developing countries, ecotourism is used as a socio-economic tool to help the rural poor. While the eco-experience can be culturally intense, ecotourism businesses in Asia generally suffer from a vicious cycle of "low price, low value" services, giving rise to rampant unsustainable practices and "green-washing".

In total, 30 professional presentations delivered by  reputable personalities from both the private and public sectors are offered, including 2 intensive parallel sessions - the Ecotourism Business Seminar and the Ecotourism Research Symposium. Subsidised conference registration fees start from US$380.

Charting the future of ecotourism is the main agenda of the Conference and I hope that future of this industry is worthy of your time and experience in the tourism industry to be with us in Sihanoukville.
