The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) is the main business support organization in Romania of the last 150 years. By law, CCIR is a non-governmental organization, which represents the interests of the Romanian entrepreneurs, helps them to overcome business related issues, and facilitates their way to expand their activities internationally. CCIR has three categories of members:
- lawful members - 42 County Chambers of Commerce and Industry)
- associated members - legal entities registered in the Register of associations and foundations or in the Register of employers’ associations) and
- honorary members - public personalities who have distinguished national and international interest in the fields of the National Chamber and through their work supports the organization in achieving its objectives.
The CCIR management is ensured by the President and the General Secretary. The President is leading the Board management of CCIR which includes 4 elected vice-presidents and 8 vice-presidents with a representative role, while the Executive is leaded by the General Secretary. CCIR backs the interests of business community, by maintaining a permanent dialogue with national institutions, diplomatic missions, representative offices of foreign businesspersons in Romania, associations and employers’ associations representative at the national level.
The National Chamber promotes business and investment opportunities by involvement in:
(a) organization of economic missions and business forums with participation of Romanian and foreign companies;
(b) dissemination of information regarding business opportunities at international level through the network of chamber’s partners;
(c) representation of the interests of the Romanian business environment in the relationship with the European and international institutions.
Last but not least, as a recognition of its involvement in Romania’s tourism sector, CCIR was elected, in 2023, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Tourism Consultative Council, which operates under the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism.
The member companies of the 42 Romanian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (county chambers of commerce), represented at the national level by the CCIR, have different fields of activity, including the tourism sector and the hospitality industry;
In accordance with the provisions of the operating law and its own Statute, the CCIR (National Chamber) performs, among others, the following main attributions:
- represents, before the Government and central authorities, as well as internationally, the county chambers and the other members, in matters of general interest;
- organizes national and international fairs of Romania and Romania's participation in fairs and exhibitions abroad under the national flag;
- in collaboration with Romexpo S.A., organizes two annual editions (spring and autumn) of the Romanian Tourism Fair;
- prepares studies on the evolution of the economy, at national, regional, county or local level and publishes, annually, a report on the state of the national economy;
- provides the Government and the central public authorities with informations and justified opinions on the aspects that concern the general interests of the economy, by domain.
