Education, applied research and consulting in the fields of tourism (mainly in Destination Management, Sustainability, Health Tourism, Sports Tourism) and in transport / mobility aspects. Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (German: Hochschule Luzern), is one of seven publicly funded Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) in Switzerland that were founded on January 1, 1997. At that time, the Hochschule Luzern bore the name University of Applied Sciences of Central Switzerland (German: Fachhochschule Zentralschweiz) and only changed to the current name over ten years later, on October 15, 2007. Today, five departments or schools make up the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, comprising different campuses located in, or close to, the city of Lucerne. Despite its recent foundation, the Hochschule Luzern can look back on a long history, as it resulted from the merger and further development of several former advanced technical schools.
