The UCC WHALE Center is a not-for-profit organisation primarily concerned with peace, justicce and sustainability. The WHALE Center has a 25 year history of being engaged with sustainable development programs. some of the highlights have included:

  • Providing leadership for the 150 Person Global Environment Team at the Eearth Summit, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1992
  • Providing a national post Earth Summit training program through a grant from the U.S. EPA. 1993
  • Coordinating an Environment & Peace event at the U.N. Headquarters for UNEP, 2000
  • Providing a program for the Salt Lake Olympic on Sustainable  Development & Ethics as part of the official Olympic Award, 2001
  • Providing a national culture based leadership development program for sustainability that received an Olympic Award, 2001
  • Directing the International Days Series for World Water Day, Earth Day, International Biodiversity Day, World Environment Day and World Ocean Day 2007
  • Co-Produced with the Walt Disney Company a six part Blue Community video series on sustainable tourism, 2012
  • Development of sea turtle education and certification programs
  • Sponsoring a Sustainable Tourism Workshop as part of the U.N. DPI Cnference at the U.N. HG, 2014
  • Co-Sponsoring a Sustainable Tourism Consultation at the USF Patel College of Global Sustainability
  • Participation as a guest of UNWTO at the U.N. High Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development at the U.N. HQ, 2015

Major programs include the Blue Community initiative that is part of the Waves of Change program related to the International Ocean Institute, the Global Healing Initiative where we have credentails with UNEP, and the Utah Population and Environment Program.

It is specifically through the Blue Community consortium that we seek affiliation with the UNWTO. The Blue Community program advocates for Sustainable Tourism and has created a consortium of over a dozen organizations that are working together to support sustainable tourism initatives ( for more information click here)
