The Azores Archipelago

The Azores Tourism Observatory is a private, non-profit association whose funding partners are the Azores Autonomous Region, the Azores Tourism Association (Tourism Promotion Agency) and the University of the Azores. The Observatory operates under the supervision of the Secretariat of Environment, Energy and Tourism of the Azores Regional Government.

MISSION

The Azores Tourism Observatory is to promote the analysis, diffusion and monitoring of the evolution of tourism activity, in an independent and credible way, ensuring the suitability of its technical-scientific production, in order to contribute to the development of a sustainable tourism in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, as part of its global strategies for regional development.

Current Monitoring Processes

The Azores Tourism Observatory analyzes and disseminates statistics on tourism in the Azores produced by the Azores Regional Statistics Service (SREA), the entity responsible for the official production of statistics.  SREA discloses data to analyze tourism related indicators. In addition, the Observatory implements annual satisfactioin surveys for tourists visiting the Azores.
