UNWTO releases comprehensive Compendium of Tourism Statistics

The 2011 edition of the UNWTO Compendium of Tourism Statistics, with more tourism data than ever before, is now available.

The latest edition of this comprehensive reference document on tourism has been considerably expanded in order to include information on a wider range of tourism indicators.  In addition to data on inbound, outbound and domestic tourism, the 2011 edition also provides statistics on the number and types of tourism industries, the number of employees by tourism industries and macroeconomic indicators related to international tourism, among others.

The UNWTO Compendium of Tourism Statistics, produced annually for the last twenty five years, provides statistical tourism data based on detailed information by official sources from most countries and territories worldwide. The 2011 Edition of the Compendium of Tourism Statistics contains figures for 212 countries and territories around the world for the period 2005 to 2009.

The improvements to the Compendium have been introduced due to a growing need for international comparability on tourism indicators. Particularly in the face of 21st century challenges, UNWTO continuously endeavors to facilitate high-level decision-making based on a thorough understanding of the impact of tourism across economies.

The 2011 edition of the UNWTO Compendium of Tourism Statistics is organized for easy and quick access, and is currently available for purchase in electronic and hard copy formats. Complimentary statistics are also available in the Yearbook of Tourism Statistics, which provides data on total arrivals and overnight stays associated with inbound tourism, broken down by country of origin for more than 200 countries and territories for the same period.
